Kale Baker’s process begins with walks and runs through the bog near her home in Newton, NH. Baker’s paintings mirror the tunnel vision state of mind that physical activity creates through spontaneous actions involving mark making and gesture. Her work evokes the feeling of being present through movement and also references the passing of time. The surface of the works are layered, physical and subtracted. Subtle and abrupt transitions between hard edge and atmosphere suggest the hazy line of clarity between internal and external awareness.
